Do you like stories? Do you like fantasy? Do you like Lord of the Rings, Narnia, or Percy Jackson? Then this is the group for you!
While we won’t be looking at said works, we will, however, explore different mythologies, which are the basis and inspiration for a great many writers across the globe. Through this, we will acquire another lens with which to appreciate the arts, and hopefully develop your interest in other cultures!
The ancients had very different views on what we now explain with science and logic. And since the stories back then, oral tradition or otherwise, were reflective of their perspectives, in learning about their mythology we are offered glimpses into their psyche and world views. Most of the readings will be surviving myths and stories from the past, and I will provide extra material every session should people be interested in learning more about a particular culture/mythos.
In our group meetings, we will discuss the readings with relation to our own cultures and modern opinions. The main goal, of course, will still be to provide people with a brief ‘tour’ of mythologies and beliefs around the world, and hopefully develop further interest in different cultures!

This English reading group would put focus on contemporary plays study. Theaters have been popular all around the world for centuries, and the history of plays can even be traced back to Ancient Greek times. Plays are definitely an essential element of literature, not to mention its indispensability in forming stage performances, and more modernly, movies nowadays. In our sessions, we are going to dig into the plays we’ve chosen, and by exchanging opinions, to get more senses of the themes, settings, characters, plot arrangements, symbols and meanings. Hopefully by discussing those powerful and inspiring texts together, we are able to reflect to some issues raised behind, and to seek out our own solutions to those ever-lasting puzzles. Plays are such splendid masterpieces that we get to experience all those different lives by reading, and simply by reading, we are led into mysterious yet fantastic unknown, and we understand more about the meaning of life there.

We are going to read a book, title is The memory keeper's daughter.

This is a book surrounding a  life-changing  story of a girl with Down’s disease. Back in the 1960, her father  dropped her off at an institute, who is a doctor himself, however the story turned in an unexpected way…

Music has always been an essential part of our lives. We listen to music while studying and commuting, as well as to simply relax and chill. However, we do not really have the chance to dig deeper into the surface. To know how music industry works, how music affect us psychologically  and about some interesting stories of musicians and music history. There are some gray areas between pop music and classical music.Being both a big fan of pop music and professional in classical music, I hope to share my love and knowledge of music with you.

Through reading and discussion, we could open up our minds. And hopefully, we could actually pay visits to music concert and library, truly getting into the world of music, and learning to look at the world in a new perspective.

If you do love music, please do not hesitate to join me and have fun together!
